Many of the most newsworthy companies routinely select the best and the brightest from around the world for H1B visa sponsorship; here are 10 of the largest and hottest during FY2012 Q1 / Q2.
From annual trends anaylsis, these are sure to be 10 of the hottest companies that recruit and select International workers for H1B visa sponsorship positions in Q1 of 2013.
When you hear about working in the U.S., your mind probably immediately goes to many of the
Fortune 500 powerhouses often featured in the news. And for good reason many of these companies have achieved success by hiring the best and brightest minds the globe has to offer through the H1B visa program.
Of course, it's still helpful to know which companies you should be targeting, if you're really considering making a play for the big leagues. Companies like Ford, General Motors and Wells Fargo, just for example, all filed less than 20 H1B visas a piece during the first half of FY2012. And the National Football League (NFL) has filed for a grand total of one H1B visa during the same period. So clearly, not every U.S. Company featured in the headlines has a particularly stellar track record for visa sponsorship.
On the other hand, many of the United States' most elite
actively recruit and sponsor talented foreign
nationals. Following is a list of 10 of the U.S.'s hottest
companies, analyzed and produced from the visa filing
records for FY 2012 Q1 and Q2, H1B visa LCAs
Headquartered in Seattle, multinational e-commerce company Amazon is the world's foremost online retailer. To compete with companies like Apple and Samsung, it has recently broken into consumer electronics as well with the introduction of its Kindle Fire tablet in fall 2011.
It's also one of the country's largest H1B visa sponsors, ranking at 26 after having filed for 342 visas.. Seven of these were denied and two withdrawn resulting in a total of 333 certified visas being filed for Amazon, with annual worker pay for these positions ranging between
$49,504 and $160,000.
Job categories filed by Amazon in the financial year include Software Developers for Applications and Systems Software, Financial Analysts, Operations Research Analysts, Computer and Information Systems Managers, Computer Systems Analyst, Marketing Managers, General and Operations Managers, and more. This information only encompasses hiring practices at Amazon's corporate headquarters in Seattle, Washington; additional LCAs may have been filed at the company's other offices as well.
Although Apple saw the very saddening passing of founder Steve Jobs last fall, the company has continued to dominate both mobile and computing marketplaces. In addition to scoring a victory in a landmark patent-infringement lawsuit against competitor Samsung, Apple also recently announced the release of its new iPhone 5.
The Cupertino-based company weighs in at 20 in the nation for H1B sponsorship, filing for 523 visas in 38 occupation categories. Only three of those visas were denied and none were withdrawn, with 520 H1B visas subsequently having been certified for positions paying in the range of $55,411 to $260,000.
Among The general job categories for which Apple filed are Computer Software Engineers for Applications and Systems Software, Electrical Engineers, General and Operations Managers, Computer and Information Systems Managers, Software Quality Assurance Engineers and Testers, Mechanical Engineers, Logisticians, Industrial Engineers, and Computer Systems Analysts. These numbers are for LCAs filed at Apple's Cupertino's offices only.
Bank of America
Boasting 5,600 branches and more than 12,000 ATMs worldwide, Bank of America is the second largest bank holding company in the U.S. in terms of assets held.
With a total of 203 LCAs, BofA ranks 55th in the nation in terms of H1B visas filed so far this financial year. Four were denied and three were withdrawn, leaving 196 certified visas for workers in 18 occupation categories paying in a range of
$48,693 to $230,000 a year.
Positions awarded to H1B-sponsored employees include Software Developers for Applications and Software Systems, Operations Research Analysts, Computer Analysts, Financial Analysts, Statisticians, Computer and Information Systems Managers, Financial Managers, and Management Analysts, among others. And although BoA is a Charlotte, NC-based company, these positions were centralized in its Pennington, NJ and Wilmington, DE offices.
With a turbulent IPO and less-than-stellar earnings, social networking giant Facebook has seen some definite ups and downs this year.
In spite of this, the company is still among the top 100 companies filing for H1B visas; ranking number 62 with 178 visas filed for full-time employment. Of these, only two were denied and three withdrawn, so the company has seen 173 H1B employees with a salary range of between $69,190 and $200,000 a year.
The 11 H1B job categories Facebook has sponsored include Software Developers for Applications, Computers and Information Systems Managers, Developers for Systems Software, Graphic Designers, Market Research Analysts and Marketing Specialists, Computer Systems Analysts, Computer Support Specialists, Business Operations Specialists, Database Administrators, and Computer and Information Research Scientists. Search engine powerhouse Google is among the top U.S. employers hiring for H1B visas, ranking number 18 on this year's list for FY2012 so far, with 701 visas filed. From that total, 5 were denied and 11 withdrawn, leaving 685 visas certified for jobs with annual salaries ranging from $42,203 to $385,000.
The company filed for a total 37 occupation categories, including Software Developers for Applications and Systems Software, Sales Engineers, Computer and Information Research Scientists, Operations Research Analysts, Sales Managers, Architectural and Engineering managers, Statisticians, Industrial Engineers and more.
Although Houston-based Halliburton Energy Services doesn't rank particularly high on the overall list of H1B-sponsoring companies, it
is one of the highest-ranking companies in the U.S. oil industry. An oilfield services company that operates around the world, Halliburton also seems to be consistently mentioned in U.S. headlines due to its many government contracts, and because of its long-standing relationship with former Vice President Dick Cheney and former President George W. Bush.
In the first half of FY2012, Halliburton filed for 49 visas, with one denied and one withdrawn. Overall, then, the company successfully filed for 47 visas in 18 job categories, including Chemical Engineers, Petroleum Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Computer Systems Analysts, Logisticians, Accountants and Auditors, Systems Software Developers, Sales Engineers, and Physicists, among others.
As one of the U.S.'s most elite and oldest institutions of higher learning, Harvard University is renowned for scouring the globe for talented employees. While it's a few places out of the top 100 H1B employers, the Cambridge-based university is consistently one of the top visa-sponsoring institutions in academia.
Harvard ranks behind Michigan State and Northwestern, respectively, at number 130 with 107 visas filed. Only two of those visas were denied and none withdrawn, so the university has hired for 105 positions in 27 occupation categories with annual pay rates between $37,253 and $239,292.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. is the largest bank in the U.S., measured by the assets it holds. It's a multinational corporation dealing in securities, investments, retail, financial services and hedge funds.
JPMorgan filed for 364 LCAs, making it the No. 24 H1B-sponsor in the nation. Two of those were denied and seven withdrawn, leaving 355 certified visas for positions paying a range of $39,000 to $300,000 a year.
These visas were filed for 32 occupational categories including Software Developers for Applications, Financial Analysts, Computer Systems Analysts, Computer Software Engineers for Applications, Operations Research Analysts, Statisticians, Database Administrators, Credit Analysts, Management Analysts, and Computer and Information Systems Managers, among others. All of these were filed for JPMorgan's retail and commercial banking headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.
Lately, it seems like Microsoft has been eclipsed in the news by other tech companies like Google and Apple. However, the company remains a giant in almost every field of computing, and it has attempted a major coup in mobile markets with the recent introduction of the Windows Phone (complete with its own OS) by HTC.
Every year, Microsoft ranks as one of the U.S.'s foremost employers of foreign nationals; though it has fallen a spot to No. 3 with 2150 H1B visas filed, don't be surprised if it climbs to the No. 1 or 2 spot before the financial year is finished. Of the visas Microsoft has filed, three have been denied and 22 withdrawn, meaning the company has successfully filed 2125 visas for 22 occupational categories paying in a range of $59,000 to $235,000 a year.
The jobs for which it has sponsored visas include Software Developers for Applications, Managers (general), Computer Systems Analysts, Financial Managers, Computer and Information Research Scientists, Computer Hardware Engineers, Marketing Managers, Financial Analysts, Multimedia Artists and Animators, and more.
One of the top telecommunications companies on the planet, Verizon boasts more than 100 million connections and generated $110.9 billion in annual revenue for 2011.
Verizon filed for 139 H1B visas, making it the No. 93 employer of foreign nationals in the country. The company had four of those visas denied and one withdrawn, allowing it to hire 134 workers for yearly salaries of between $65,000 and $125,000.
Verizon sponsored visas for Computer Systems Analysts, Software Developers, and Computer Systems Administrators, among others. These stats reflect LCAs filed for its offices in Irving, Texas.
