Guide to improving H1B job search success rates
not just your standard and usual tips……these are tips for foreign nationals who really want to succeed in today’s challenging and competitive H1B jobs and visa sponsorship market !

Section 1:
Your traditional ‘CV’ – versus - a professional USA ‘Resume’….

Tip Number 1…..
First, you need a great USA style and formatted ‘resume’ that is geared to get results in the US market – and professionally presented in the way that US employers want (and expect).

Tip Number 2…..
Start by converting your traditional ‘CV’ into a new US style ‘resume’ – don’t expect to get responses from employers or interviews if you send them a non-US standardized ‘CV’ (there is a big difference) – you need to have a ‘Great’ US resume that is professionally presented to make you stand out.

USA spelling and grammar is different to virtually every other Country - Double and triple check to make absolutely sure there are NO spelling and grammar mistakes.

IF H1B employers see spelling mistakes in your resume it’s a Big Negative and makes them think that you haven’t taken the time / been committed to preparing your resume or conducting a serious H1B job search, and that you don’t pay attention to detail. You need to be at the top of your game from start to finish to get the best results.

Tip Number 3…..
Make sure your resume is only 1-2 pages in length. Be clear, concise and straight to the point….. that’s what US employers prefer.

Don’t turn your resume into a story book about your life – US employers are very direct and very busy - and they only want to know what you can bring to the table and how you can benefit them (NOT what your past time hobbies are, or that you won a swimming race when you were 14 years old).

Tip Number 4…..
Do NOT for any reason include any personal information (except your name and contact details). Including personal details such as age, sex, race, (even saying you can drive etc) --- can get you rejected straight away because of US discriminatory laws.

Tip Number 5…..
Don’t make employers have to guess at anything….. because they won’t spend their time calling you up just to clarify a missing date, or what you did in a job, or why you changed career direction. If they don’t see everything they need to see (very clearly) – they will just put your resume down and move on to the next one.

Tip Number 6…..
Try and be creative – add your own personal character into your resume and try to make it a little unique – it’s a great way to get attention, get noticed and make yourself stand out to employers.

Tip Number 7…..
Do not rush ! – the more effort you spend at the beginning perfecting your resume for the US market - the more jobs you will get considered for – the better results you will get - and the less time and effort you will spend (in total) on your H1B job search.

H1 Base makes sure you have a professional US ‘resume’ - geared to get you the best results in the USA - H1B sponsorship market

Section 2: Your 'H1B' job search... Do's and Dont's

First, we firmly believe that 'Knowledge is Power', so for your benefit... it's important for us to let you know about some of the realities you face to set your expectations straight from the start.... and most importantly.... how H1 Base can help you successfully overcome them all.

Many people fall into the common trap of assuming that there are thousands of jobs in the US – so… it must be quite easy to get one ?

Sounds fairly logical at first, but unfortunately, it couldn’t be further from the truth !
**
there’s a little thing called H1B visa sponsorship thrown right in the middle of everything.

To spice it up even more
, there’s a relatively small ‘window of opportunity’ each year. Unfortunately most people wait until a month or 2 before the filing period opens and presume and imagine they can get everything accomplished and completed within a few weeks
. This is what’s commonly known as the “late mad rush”.

Whatever you do, try to Avoid the late mad rush at any cost ! – plan well ahead, and start well ahead of the filing period. You’ll enjoy better success rates and a lot LESS competition for H1B jobs.

Many H1B employers typically start selecting/recruiting as early as September – stay a step ahead of your competition.... it's much easier to find many of the best H1B jobs at the start of the H1B recruitment season (right now), and you’ll get more successful results, and it will save you rushing around and getting frustrated at the last minute.

Tip Number 1…..
When you’re conducting your H1B job search – Remember…..if a US company doesn’t sponsor H1B’s – it means they don’t and won’t sponsor H1B’ s - no matter who you are (even if you’re a rocket scientist or look like David Beckham)

.... so it's very important to invest your time and effort wisely, efficiently and effectiviely... by targeting and focusing just on jobs and companies that DO and will sponsor H1B visas (.... at the end of the day, it's an H1B visa you need - so there's absolutely no point wasting time applying to / getting a job with a company that doesn't or won't sponsor H1B's).

Don’t try and hide it - Tell employers from the start that you need an H1B – it will save a lot of time, effort and disappointments in the long run.

Tip Number 2…..
Don’t expect responses - or - any type of constructive results if you just apply to any and all US job ads/listings posted anywhere on the internet – if companies don’t advertise to sponsor H1B’s – then they do not sponsor – so your spinning your wheels and wasting your time and effort applying to them.

Tip Number 3…..
Again, Don’t assume all US companies sponsor H1B’s (they don’t).
Don’t assume all US jobs are available for H1B sponsorship (they’re not)

Now we can move on with a small list of things you can do
that Will increase your success rate and get you the best results
(... and it will save months of your time and effort)

Tip Number 4…..
DO Target, focus and apply to jobs that ARE advertised for H1B sponsorship (jobs that clearly state in the advertisement/listing that the job IS available for H1B sponsorship)

Tip Number 5…..
DO Target, focus and apply to the companies that state that they DO sponsor H1B’s... or that have a strong track record of sponsoring H1B’s.

But… how do you find out which jobs and which companies ARE available for H1B visa sponsorship??......well, that’s where H1 Base comes into the equation – we have specialist H1B systems that find and get you ALL the jobs advertised for H1B sponsorship, we work with thousands of H1B sponsoring companies and we get official records from the US Immigration Bureauwe provide you with direct access to ALL the Jobs that ARE available for H1B sponsorship and to ALL the companies that DO sponsor H1B visas.

By Targeting and focusing just on H1B jobs and H1B sponsor companies - You will get much faster, easier and more successful results – and it will save months of your time and effort. (it’s the biggest single factor between success and failure!).

Tip Number 6…..
NOT all jobs are filled through advertisements - there’s something called the “Hidden Job Market”….. many of the most established US research companies state that up to 80% of all jobs are filled before companies needs to advertise them. They do this by hiring people who ‘pro-actively’ send there resumes to them, and/or through networking methods.

Pro-actively send your resume and network with Companies by applying directly to hiring managers whether they are advertising a ‘live’ (available) job or not. 80% is a huge amount of jobs….so it works, and is definitely worth pursuing!....this is where utilizing databases of H1B sponsor companies / hiring managers can get you great results.

Tip Number 7…..
Don’t just post your resume and then sit back expecting to be flooded with job offers. You need to be pro-active and ‘go get’ the jobs that are available for H1B sponsorship, with the companies that Do sponsor H1B visas.

Tip Number 8…..
Track, manage and follow up on job applications (don’t be shy, or lazy!) – following up shows your enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to getting the job.

Tip Number 9…..
Sell yourself throughout the entire process – a US employer doesn’t know your skills and capabilities if you don’t tell them (start by clearly explaining everything in your resume) and make sure you thoroughly prepare and practice for interviews.

Tip Number 10…..
Be dedicated and keep going – it’s not always ‘easy’, but there are proven ways to make it ‘easier’ (and faster). Remember, every year thousands and thousands of people (just like you) do successfully obtain H1B visas. Be proactive, positive and keep your head up high.

Tip Number 11
Don't overlook the 'Cap-Exempt' H1B visa market. Cap exempt H1B's are a great way to sneak in the back door, at any time of year.

US Universities/Colleges and non profit organizations are very privileged - the US Government allows them to hire and sponsor (apply for) as many H1B visas as they want, whenever they want, at any time of year (allows them to 'side-step' the regular H1B quota filing limitations). Consider Universities as big businesses with all types of jobs available - as well as the obvious teaching/lecturing type jobs - they also have finance, marketing, business, research and IT departments (and many have hospitals / medical centers). Our services include thousands of available Cap-Exempt jobs.
* find a cap-exempt H1B job and you can apply for, and get your H1B visa, and start working in the USA - at any time of year.
